How to use the sipgate Webphone for browser-based VoIP calls, including features, transfers, and settings.
With sipgate Webphone, you can make calls directly from your computer - ideally using a headset. Calls are initiated or received directly in the browser, with no need for external software installation.
We recommend using the sipgate app, which you can download for free here.

Starting the Webphone
In the sipgate user interface, you'll find the Webphone option under My Telephony in the bottom left corner. Click the button, and your selected phone will connect automatically.
Webphone button not visible to use
The Webphone, you must have an active VoIP phone configured. You can add one under Manage Phones. The Webphone button will also not be visible if you are an admin switching to another user's account.
Which numbers are used for incoming and outgoing calls?
The Webphone interface shows the number used for incoming and outgoing calls. If you have multiple phones set up in your sipgate account, you can select the preferred one within the Webphone.
Test call
To test the Webphone's call quality, dial 10005 for free. This also helps verify that your microphone and audio output are working correctly. If issues arise, check your system's audio input and output settings.
Using the Event List and Webphone
Simultaneously open the Event List and Webphone in separate browser tabs for parallel use. In the Event List, click Call, enter the number, and select the first VoIP phone. Then, in the Webphone tab, accept the call and wait for the recipient to pick up. The call will appear in the Event List, where you can add comments afterward.
Adjusting volume
Modify the ringtone, incoming call volume, and microphone input level via your operating system's settings. Depending on your device, adjustments may also be possible directly on your headset.

The ringtone sounds like this: mp3
It cannot currently be changed.
Calls from "Unknown"
If the caller is not saved as a sipgate contact, Unknown will appear. You can add a new contact via the Event List or Contacts section. The next time they call, their name will be displayed.
Dialing by copying and pasting numbers
Use CTRL/CMD + C to copy numbers and CTRL/CMD + V to paste and dial them. Numbers can include spaces, dashes, plus signs, and parentheses.
Call Transfers
Option 1
Receive an incoming call.
Activate the keypad, enter *3, type the number, and press #.
The Webphone connects to the transfer number.
Introduce the caller and then hang up. The caller and the transfer recipient are now connected.
Option 2
Receive an incoming call.
Click Transfer, search for the contact or enter the number, then click Transfer again.
The selected number is dialed and connects.
Introduce the caller and hang up. The transfer is complete.
Canceling a transfer
Open the keypad, enter *8, and listen for the announcement. You can then speak with the caller and initiate a new transfer if needed.
Recording Calls
Start an incoming or outgoing call.
Open the keypad and enter *6. Both parties will hear "Recording started."
To stop recording, enter *6 again.
The recording is available in your Event List.
Note: Only one recording can be saved per call.
Enabling desktop notifications
Go to Webphone settings at the bottom of the interface and enable push notifications. Note: If you use multiple monitors, notifications will only appear on Monitor 1.
Setting a separate ringtone output
This feature is available for Chrome, Brave, and Opera. In the Webphone settings, click Audio Settings and select a separate device for the ringtone.
Using Click2Dial
Currently, Click2Dial can be activated but is not functional. It only facilitates dialing numbers from the sipgate Event List. To enable Click2Dial for numbers on various websites, a browser add-on is required.
Three-Way conferencing
Currently, Webphone does not support three-way conferencing. However, you can use a VoIP app or VoIP phone for this function.
Which audio codec is used?
Webphone uses G.711 (60-100 kbit/s), without adjustments for low-bandwidth connections.
Is signaling and/or voice transmission encrypted?
Yes. Signaling is encrypted via TLS, and voice transmission is secured using SRTP.
