How can I use sipgate in combination with starlink?
How to use sipgate VoIP telephony with Starlink internet, including tips for stable connections and bypass mode.
Some customers use Starlink as their internet provider when abroad. There are a few things to keep in mind when using sipgate in combination with Starlink:
In general, sipgate telephony via Starlink works without any problems with the standard Starlink router or the built-in Wi-Fi router, the Starlink Mini. It does not matter whether you use a business or private tariff. Connections can also be established with IPV6. When setting up, please ensure that the antenna is not blocked by any obstacles (such as branches or canopies) above it.
However, you should note the following for Starlink's private customer plan:
The configuration offers the option of activating a bypass mode. This mode should be used if you want to use your own router and bypass the Starlink router. This gives your own router a public IP address, which avoids double NAT and thus improves the connection via VoIP.
VoIP calls work best when your Starlink connection is stable and error-free. You can easily check your connection via the Starlink app under the OUTAGES section. Short outages in the range of 0.1 to 2 seconds (first tab) are usually not a problem for real-time applications. However, longer outages of 2 seconds or more (second tab) can be critical, as calls may be briefly interrupted or completely dropped. If calls are sporadically unavailable, switching the protocol to TCP can provide a more stable connection.
