sipgate Softphone for macOS

With the sipgate Softphone you can make calls via your Mac - ideally with a headset.
Calls are started or answered from the app.

1. Installation

The latest sipgate softphone is available for you at 

https://www.sipgate.co.uk/softphone

  • Open the loaded file in the Finder and drag it to “Programs”.

  • Click “Authenticate” and then enter the administrator username and password to confirm the installation.

  • You can now start the sipgate Softphone via “Programs” in the Finder. You also have the option of displaying it permanently in the dock.

2. Log in

Approach 1:

  • Start the sipgate softphone and click "Login in browser".

  • Your standard browser opens the sipgate login page.
  • Now enter the e-mail address and password of your sipgate account.
  • Confirm in the browser that the sipgate Softphone may be opened.

  • The softphone is now successfully registered and you will see the input mask for a phone number. Please note that popups in the browser for app.sipgate.com must be allowed.

 

Approach 2:

  • Start the sipgate softphone and click "Login in browser" - your standard browser opens the sipgate login page.
  • Now enter the e-mail address and password of your sipgate account.
  • The browser reports that a pop-up has been blocked and now shows a manual login code.

  • Copy the login code and paste it into the sipgate softphone. Then click “Login”.
  • The softphone is now successfully registered and you will see the input mask for a phone number.

3. Features and settings

Call transfer:

  • You get an incoming call.
  • Activate the keyboard, touch * 3, enter the number and click "#" or "Transfer" button, enter phone number and click on transfer.
  • The softphone now connects to the transfer number.
  • Name the request and hang up on the softphone.
  • The caller and forwarding number are now connected.

Record conversations:

  • During the call, click the keypad and dial * 6.
  • Both sides will then hear "Recording started", if you select * 6 again, you will stop recording.
  • You will find the recording in the sipgate team account in your event list after ending the call.
  • Please note that it may take longer for the recording to appear in your event list if the call lasted longer than 30 minutes. Only one recording can be saved per call.

Set up desktop notification:

  • Click on the settings you can find in the softphone below. Turn on push notifications.

  • Please note that the desktop notification is only displayed on monitor 1 when using multiple monitors.

Click2Dial for tel URI:

FireFox:

When you click on a number, you are asked whether sipgate is allowed to call - see picture After opening the link, the call is carried out. Click on "Save selection for tel-links" so that the call can always be made immediately in the future.

Chrome: 

When you click on a number, you are asked whether sipgate is allowed to call - see picture. After clicking on “sipgate” the call will be carried out.
Note: The query for the app before a call is always made (since v77).

Safari: 

When you click on a phone number, you are asked whether the call should be allowed. Click “Allow call”, the call will then be made.
Note: The query is made before every call.

 

Set separate audio output for ringing:

  • Click on the audio settings found in the softphone below.
  • Activate “Additional device for ringtone” here. You can then select the device you want to use for audio output.

Test numbers for audio tests:

  • Test incoming audio: 10 000
  • Test double-sided audio:10 005

Are three-way conferences possible?

We are currently working on this option.

Which voice codec is used?

  • G.711 (60-100kbit / s), there is no adaptive adaptation to low bandwidth if you are on the go.

Is the signaling and / or speech encrypted?

  • Yes, signaling via TLS and voice via SRTP.
