How do I install the sipgate app on Windows?
To install the sipgate app on a Windows desktop, certain prerequisites must be met.

You can download the sipgate app CLINQ from here. Once the download is complete, copy the file clinq.exe to your computer. Then, start the installation process. It is important to note that installing from a network drive may lead to error messages, so it’s recommended to run the file locally on your PC.
Currently, there is no way to perform mass installations of the sipgate app CLINQ using an .msi file. However, you can create your own .msi file using various free and pro software solutions:
- InstallShield
- Advanced Installer
- MSI Factory
- WiX Toolset
- NSIS (Nullsoft Scriptable Install System)
- Microsoft Visual Studio Installer Projects
- Various other installer software
Installation Path
During installation, the sipgate app is typically installed in the following directories:
- C:\Users[Username]\AppData\Local\Programs\sipgate-desktop\
- C:\Users[Username]\AppData\Roaming\sipgate-desktop\
Installing on a Terminal Server
It is possible to install the sipgate app CLINQ on a terminal server, but this is not the default setup. Be aware that audio device connections between the desktop and the terminal server are not supported.
Setting sipgate App CLINQ as the Default TEL App
If you are using Windows 11, you can set the sipgate app as the default app for TEL (telephone function) by going to Default Apps and selecting Choose defaults by link type. Then, choose Tel: sipgate as the default.
If you are using Windows 10/11 version 22H2 and the option to set the sipgate app as the default TEL app is not visible, you can resolve the issue as follows:
- Exit the sipgate app.
- Delete the FirstRun folder located in C:\Users[Username]\AppData\Roaming\sipgate-desktop\FirstRun.
- Restart the sipgate app.
- You should now be able to select sipgate as the default app for the Tel link type.
Enabling Notifications for the sipgate App CLINQ
To ensure you receive notifications from the sipgate app on Windows 11, follow this path:
Settings ➔ System ➔ Notifications ➔ ON. After enabling general notifications, go to the sipgate app CLINQ and adjust specific settings: sipgate app CLINQ ➔ Settings ➔ Notifications ➔ ON. To ensure visual notifications, activate: sipgate app Settings ➔ Show Notification Banner.
Network Installation of the sipgate App CLINQ
Local administrator rights are required for installing or updating the sipgate app CLINQ on Windows.
To avoid manual updates by users, it is recommended to use a software management tool:
- baramundi: Use the software distribution function.
- installomator: Use the GitHub repository to find the latest .yml file and automatically check for new versions.
Please note, we are currently unable to provide .msi files.
Errors & Solutions
If the installation of the sipgate app CLINQ on your Windows computer does not work as expected, you can try the following troubleshooting steps:
- Check Windows admin group policies that might be blocking the installation.
- Temporarily disable local software firewall/antivirus programs.
- On Surface Pro X SQ1/SQ2, test using a 64-bit emulator.
- If an error message appears after logging in, try resetting the cache in the sipgate app help options.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, send your sipgate logs along with a description of the error to the support team.
Error: sipgate App Installation/Update Doesn’t Work
Error Messages: sipgate cannot be closed. and A JavaScript error occurred in the main process.
Cause: PowerShell is operating in Constrained Language Mode, which blocks PowerShell script execution.
Solution:
- Temporarily adjust group policies to allow PowerShell in FullLanguage mode.
- Perform the CLINQ installation/update.
- Re-enable group policies to return to the original state.
- Example: Use Constrained Language mode in SRP/GPO.
Following these steps should allow the CLINQ installation or update to proceed without errors. Be aware that group policy changes should only be temporary to maintain security settings.
Error: Microphone Not Selectable in the App
If a microphone cannot be selected in the sipgate app CLINQ, you can enable access as follows:
Go to Windows ➔ Privacy & Security ➔ Microphone
- Microphone access: ON
- Allow apps to access your microphone: ON
Uninstalling the sipgate App CLINQ
How to completely uninstall the sipgate app CLINQ:
Go to Windows Apps and Features, search for sipgate CLINQ, and click Uninstall.
Open the desktop in Windows and select This PC.
Select drive C:, navigate to Users, and click on your username.
Click on the AppData folder. If this folder is not visible, enable it through the options or follow a Google guide.
Inside the Local and Roaming folders, locate the sipgate-desktop folder and delete it:
- C:\Users[Username]\AppData\Local\Programs\sipgate-desktop
- C:\Users[Username]\AppData\Roaming\sipgate-desktop
Important: When uninstalling, settings, credentials, and contacts are unfortunately retained. These data must be manually removed.
