How can I send and receive SMS via sipgate?

Sending SMS

Note: Text messaging is enabled by default when a new user is set up. Account administrators can enable or disable text messaging for any user under 'User Settings' in the navigation bar.

Please use the following instructions to send an SMS:

In users settings / Personal Settings:

  1. Click on the blue SMS button above the left hand side "navigation" bar.
  2. In the "SMS" window, Enter the full telephone number or sipgate contact name under Recipient.
  3. Enter your message content/text in the area under Message.
  4. Select the time the SMS should be sent. You have the choice of sending the SMS immediately or at a specified time in the future (Now, Today, Tomorrow and the next few (3) days will also be shown.
  5. Click Send to send(or queue the SMS to be sent if you've chosen a later date/time) the SMS.

Delayed Messaging

When sending an SMS, you can choose to send it at a specific time.

You have the option of sending a text message:

  • Today, at a specific time
  • Tomorrow, at a specific time
  • 2 to 4 days later, at a specific time

Here's how you can schedule an SMS:

  • Click SMS at the top of the navigation bar
  • At the bottom of the pop-up for your SMS, click "Now" under "SCHEDULED"
  • A drop-down menu of times will appear
  • Select the date you want, and you will then be able to select the time you want as well

 

Please ensure that SMS is enabled in the User's "User Settings" section by an account administrator before attempting to send a scheduled SMS.

In addition, please be aware of SMS costs and how to receive responses to SMS.

Note: When choosing Today, Tomorrow or any of the follow on dates, a hour and a minute field will open allowing you to enter the desired time when you want the message to be sent.

Charging Rates

SMS messages are charged at the following rates:

  • Web-SMS 160 5.9 p ex VAT
  • Web-SMS 310 11.8 p ex VAT
  • Web-SMS 460 17.7 p ex VAT

Receiving SMS

It's not possible to receive SMS at sipgate telephone numbers.

If you'd like your sipgate web SMS messages to be sent directly to your mobile phone via your personal mobile number, you'll need to connect your phone to sipgate via the following instructions:

  • In your sipgate account, click Connections
  • Next to the row labeled "Caller ID", click the cog symbol.
  • A pop up will appear where you can enter your mobile number, then click Save.
  • We'll send you a text with a verification code for you to enter in this section of your account upon receipt.

Please allow 10 minutes for this change to take effect.

Note: Responses to messages you receive to your mobile will be answered via your mobile phone's number. if you'd like to reply to this message using your sipgate number, you will need to use our Web SMS service and not reply to this text via your mobile.
