How can I set up Presence/BLF (Busy Lamp Fields)?

What is Busy Lamp Field (BLF)?

If you want to see the call status of your colleagues directly on your own phone, the Busy Lamp Field (BLF) feature is the ideal solution. It is included in the business L and business XL plans.

Before using BLF, each user must be assigned an internal extension. Once correctly configured on a VoIP device, BLF displays the following three statuses:

  • Free: The user is not on a call, and the busy lamp is off.
  • Busy: The user is on a call, and the busy lamp is solidly lit.
  • Ringing: The user is receiving an incoming call, and the busy lamp is blinking.

The configuration of BLF varies depending on the phone model. You can find setup instructions in your phone's manufacturer documentation or on their websites.

We have tested BLF on several phone models and provide configuration guides for the following brands

Alternative: Presence display in your sipgate account

Instead of BLF, you can also check the Presence Display in your sipgate account under My Telephony. This shows which users are currently available.

If a user is on a call, their tile, including their internal extension, will be displayed in red.

Important: Every User must be assigned an internal extension for BLF and Presence to function properly.
