How do I set up a sipgate account?

You can only start making calls once you have verified your location. However, beforehand you have the option to add users, book numbers, assign users, and create groups. You can also configure your phones or other devices in advance.

Here you can see an overview of the Accountmanagement. This is the starting point from which administrators can perform all configuration steps. When you create a sipgate account, you are automatically assigned the role of administrator.

Booking plans & packages

To continue using sipgate after the trial period (30 days), you need to book a tariff in your account. You can learn more about sipgate tariffs on this website. You can switch to a different plan at any time under Account & Bills in the Accountmanagement. However, since there is no automatic refund for the old plan, it is advisable to change tariffs at the end of a calendar month.

Booking phone numbers

Important note: If you want to test sipgate, you have 3 test numbers available during the trial period. These numbers and the account settings will automatically expire after 30 days, so you should book your own numbers by then. You will only be able to make calls once you have verified your account with the start code.

  • Go to Accountmanagement and select Phone Numbers.
  • Now click on Book button in the right corner.

Adding users

Select the Users tile in the Accountmanagement section. On the detail page, click the + Add User button to create a new User.

Note: Once the process is complete, the newly created user will automatically receive an email with their login details.

Assigning and adding phone numbers

Assigning and adding numbers occurs on two interconnected levels:
1. Assigning a number to a user
2. The user assigns this number to a device

There are two ways to assign numbers to Users: either directly during the user adding process or afterward. If you want to assign a number to a user afterward, first go to Accountmanagement and click Phone Numbers.

In the overview, you will see all the numbers associated with your sipgate account. Click on Set Call Destination next to the number you want to assign to the User and select the appropriate users. Once you click Save in routing section, the number will be assigned to the User.

Users can now assign the number to a device themselves. To do this, they click on My Telephony in the left navigation menu of their user interface, and then on Edit routing in the upper right corner. In their routing diagrams, users can click + Add phone number to assign the phone number to a device. However, as an administrator, you can also perform this step for the users. To do this, select the Users tile in the account management section.

Additional Devices

You can use two VoIP phones per user by default. Additional phones can be booked for an extra fee. To add another device, follow these steps:

In the account management section, select the users for whom you want to add a device (VoIP phone or external phone). This will open the user detail view. Click on Add Device in the upper right corner.

A newly added device will appear in your account as a telephony endpoint or interface. However, this interface must still be connected to a desk phone, softphone, or another device to enable actual calling. You can find the configuration instructions for common devices here.

Additional VoIP Devices

You have the option to set up phones without assigning them to specific users. These phones can then be assigned to specific locations, for example.

Note: These additional VoIP devices do not have an event list.

Click on Additional VoIP devices in the Accountmanagement section, then click on + Add VoIP Additional Extension. You can now enter the name for the new device.

You can find the SIP credentials for configuration by clicking on the newly created extension under SIP Credentials.
